Sarah J. Isaacson is Of Counsel to Roeder Law Offices LLC. Ms. Isaacson is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer with a track record of handling litigation cases from the beginning in lower court, through trial and post-trial practice, as well as any point throughout the appellate process, including through the Illinois Supreme Court and United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Ms. Isaacson has more than a decade of trial experience including both jury and bench trials, representing corporations and individuals. Ms. Isaacson has successfully tried and settled complex disputes in state and federal court in a variety of areas including audit malpractice, land use and zoning, franchise, dealership and distribution, commercial litigation and securities matters.
Ms. Isaacson strongly advocates on behalf of her clients and has represented both plaintiffs and defendants. Professional Liability Highlights
Member of a trial team that won a jury verdict of $13 million for the governing board of the City Colleges of Chicago in an audit malpractice case against PricewaterhouseCoopers, L.L.P. Claims against another auditor settled before trial for a confidential amount. This verdict is believed to be the largest reported audit malpractice jury verdict in Illinois. Member of the appeal team that successfully represented the governing board of the City Colleges of Chicago through the Illinois Supreme Court in affirmance of that verdict.
Represented income beneficiaries of a $75 million trust fund in state court action against other income beneficiaries and their trustees.
Corporate & Business Litigation Highlights
Successfully tried to jury verdict joint venture claims of the plaintiff involving the development of a stock portfolio tracking system into a website, where she obtained a liability judgment in favor of the plaintiff shareholders’ derivative claim in a parallel bench proceeding in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Represented plaintiff through jury verdict in a breach of contract and breach of implied warranty claims in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Successfully defended against plaintiff’s claims for breach of contract and violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act in a court ordered arbitration proceeding, after successfully defeated class certification.
Successfully obtained summary judgment in a state court matter before the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, Lake County, Illinois, on various issues in favor of plaintiff, a retail design and execution firm that produces graphics, signage and other services for the retail industry, against defendants, a business involved in supplying computer kiosks for community centers and other public places and its president, in connection with an LLC that was formed between the parties, particularly including dissolution of the LLC on its complaint seeking judicial dissolution, as well as dismissal with prejudice of various counterclaims brought by defendant business, including breach of contract, promissory fraud, tortious interference with prospective relationship/expectancy, and expulsion of plaintiff from the LLC, as well as a declaratory judgment in favor of plaintiff on defendant business’s counterclaim that defendant business had no ownership interest in plaintiff’s specifically identified intellectual property. Member of the trial team in which, on the eve of trial on the remaining issues, the trial court granted all 15 of plaintiff’s motions in limine. The parties ultimately reached a settlement without having to proceed to trial on the merits.
Land Use and Zoning Litigation Highlights
Successfully defended a multi-million dollar zoning challenge in a bench trial in the Circuit Court of Cook County and successfully represented client through the Illinois Supreme Court.
Represented objecting neighbors to planned development and variance applications including cross-examination of applicant, alderman and city officials before the Chicago Plan Commission and Chicago Zoning Board of Appeals.
Franchise & Dealership Litigation Highlights
Successfully negotiated a settlement on behalf of franchisees engaged in a franchised lawn care business against the franchisor where franchisees were seeking a declaration of their rights under their existing franchise agreement.
Successfully settled an arbitration case on behalf of a former franchisee on a breach of contract and injunctive relief claims for purported amounts due on business note and security agreement.
Successfully settled a case for a franchisee regarding lease guarantee seeking monetary damages and also possession of the leased premises.
Successfully settled a collection action case involving a former franchisee against claims by a third-party supplier.
Successfully negotiated a settlement on behalf of a former franchisee in a dispute with the purchaser regarding amounts due under promissory note and escrow agreement as well as alleged claims of breach of covenant not to compete and indemnity.
Successfully negotiated an agreement to effectively resolve disputes of a licensee against another licensee in a contiguous geographic territory over claimed breaches by sales in its exclusive protected geographic territories and also negotiated and received approval from the licensor with respect to said agreement.
